COPYCAT Music Video
I absolutely love this piece. The bold yet understated colours are very 70s-esque which is really in right now, and I think they look great together. I also like the style of the drawings, very hand-drawn and flat
Key points:
-Words don’t have to be laid out in a logical order if you make them appear in the right order
-Words can be contained within illustrations
-You can reuse graphics
-Stick to a solid colour scheme
-You can create slides with really small text in if you start with that part and zoom out
-Some illustrations look hand drawn, this could be an interesting style for me to experiment with
-Everything can be put together without any hard cuts
As it turns out, this piece wasn’t created in After Effects like I assumed. The creator used a piece of software called Harmony by Toon Boom. The software seems like its really efficient for creating things like this, however, I definitely want to stick with After Effects, because I want my piece to demonstrate my After Effects skills, it doesn’t matter to me that there’s software that is quicker and more efficient.
- He says that he wanted to create a story within the video, and this is important because it gives people a reason to watch it. Even though my pieces are short, I should definitely think about what narratives they are expressing.
- He uses a lot of squash and stretch, along with masks, for creating his transitions.
- Most of his animations are quite simple, just typography moving around, however, he does incorporate some graphical elements too.
PewDiePie Music Video
As much as this isn’t a serious song, I absolutely love this video. The artist clearly had a lot of fun when creating it and it shows in their work. The colour scheme is a lot cooler than the previous one, but he still manages to incorporate PewDiePie’s signature red and his waves pattern.
I like how this shot takes advantage of displaying the text within a drawing. And the idea of ‘spilling the tea’ with tea coming out of the pot is really clever.
This is a screenshot mid transition between two shots and I like how they have done it. It seems to be a slash that then dissipates, but its all hand drawn and I would like to replicate this is my own work.
